3 Easy ways to save money on food by growing your own! (Hint: You Don’t Need to Have a Huge Yard)

  1. Try growing your own herbs!

I haven’t had to buy basil or min at the store in forever because it’s so simple to grow your own! Propagating these herbs is a quick and easy way to get a never ending supply! After you buy the herbs once, all you have to do is snip the stems at the bottom, remove any leaves, and place them in a jar with clean water! Soon you will have roots and start to see new buds forming on your herbs. You can leave them in the water or move them to a pot with soil once the roots get about 2 inches in length.

    2. Get an endless supply of celery or green onions!

Propagating these bad babies is so simple, and it only takes a couple of days to start seeing the new plant grow! Just cut the stalks of celery or onions off at the base and then place the base in a jar of water. (I poke 3 toothpicks in the sides to keep it from completely submerging in the water.) Just a few days in water and the new produce will start to emerge from the base! So easy!

    3. Grow your own Tomatoes!

I knew I had to put tomatoes on this list because they are so easy to grow in a pot, which means you don’t have to have a ton of yard space. You can either buy a packet of seeds from the store or pick the seeds out of a tomato that you bought from the store! Once you have the number of seeds you want to plant (plus a couple extra for good measure) you just need to rinse them off under water and then lay them to dry on a paper towel. You can store the seeds in an envelope in a cool dry place. I store mine for up to 6 months.

I hope you found these tips useful. I can’t wait to hear from you!
